I bought this 100 spindle just recently. It arrived OK but when I tested three blanck disks, all of them failed. I decided to return the rest.

I bought this 100 DVD+R 4.7G packet because of Verbatim’s reputation and my great experience with DVD+R DL 8.5G which was perfcet and had no issue at all. I do not know what happened. Maybe it was just a bad batch. My DVD burner was on a new Dell laptop and was OK on Verbatim DVD+R DL. The 8.5G was made in Singapore whereas the 4.7G was made in Taiwan.

I can’t say enough how pleased I am of this case. Very well put together. Lots of room, nice cable management. I bought this for a friend’s build and when I need another case, I will be buying this case. I have two lian li’s at my house and would not have any issue putting this case next to them. It’s not flashy or gaudy. It’s a bit heavy but it’s steel and steel is heavy.

This case is absolutely the finest case I have ever purchased. Amazon offers this case at a very reasonable price while many other retailers want over 100$ or do not even carry it. Do not bother getting the nvidia edition model as it is no different and 20$ more than this one. The pluses:

1. PSU mounts in the bottom of the case providing ample air flow and space up top.

2. Removable drive chassis, nuff said.

3. This case holds up to 7 fans!!!

4. cable assembly already setup and very clean.

5. other than the mounting screws for the mobo, this case is toolless.

the cons:

1. The patch panel for USB, headphone,etc. is on top, so you need space above the case if you put it in a desk cabinet or similar.

2. The case is slightly taller than a standard mid-tower.

this case still gets a 5 for value, and 5 for usabillity and 5 for sheer awsomeness. I give the overall rating a 4 only because I could not get any rebate for it bringing down the price. I always get rebates.

1 Star Case came with missing parts and Cooler Master Did not send replacements
Bought this case, some parts was missing and called cooler master support to request the missing parts, CS was really nice and said it was going to be shipped, 3 weeks later and still nothing. They rely on that this is heavy and you will not ship it back for a refund. Now i’m stucked with a case that has missing features.

Not a trust worthy brand.

5 Stars Excellent quallity! Great Functional Design
I rarely keep cases after I buy a new one, this one is an exception. It is a truly great PC case. The USB, E-Sata, and Audio ports on top are great, and the quality of build for this case is superior to most. The price is on par with the rest of the filed, but it outshines almost all of them. I love the mesh steel look. The interior is a bit smallish, but easy to build in, the cable management system is a welcome addition.

5 Stars Great Case
The Cooler Master Centurion 690 is a great case for the price. Most of the installation was tool free as said. The removable HDD racks do seem to be made of cheap plastic but on installation they all went in with no problem and seemed a lot more sturdy with a hard drive in them. They include little handles that make them very easy to pull out. Plus with the side installation you wont have to take apart your computer just to fit another in.

The optical drive installation process is also very easy, you just push out the slots that you need, move a switch on the side over and up, slide in the drive, move the switch down and over. Very simple.

I am less impressed with the tool-less expansion slots, I installed a Geforce 98000GT and could not get the clip to close all the way.

The cable management is average, it includes plastic clips on the inside that work ok, I would prefer more holes in the frame for small zip ties. Also the included cable management makes the room to slide the motherboard in very snug, but it was no real problem.

One advantage in my opinion is that this case did not include a power supply. If it did I would have just replaced it with my own. I also enjoyed the power supply installing in the bottom of the case, although it was slightly difficult to get enough of the wires out of the way for the bottom fan to be installed.

The case stays very cool and includes many places to mount fans. It came with 3 120mm fans that were average. I found them to be a little weak and replaced all but one, with 4 120mm case fans total (2 side, 1 rear, 1 front). The top and front of the case is a metal mesh, it seems to be a good quality material and allows great air circulation.

I do like that the USB, headphone, mic and eSATA slots are all located on the top, since I keep this case close to the ground its very convenient. I also like the rubber feet that are on the bottom of the case. They are large enough to let air beneath if you have it on a hard surface (and that’s a must if you have a bottom fan installed).

Overall the case could be better but for the price I couldn’t ask for anything more, looks good, works great and keeps my computer running cool.

1 Star Beware for AVCHD 4.1 camera users
This product was highly reviewed for video editing. In fact, on many sites, this product was ranked higher than Sony Vegas, Adobe Elements, and a multitude of others.

Being cautious, I downloaded the evaluation version (free from Cyberlink’s website). This free evaluation does not allow for HD content burning, but was enough to play with the look and feel of the product. It seemed like a reasonable product, so I bought a copy from Amazon.

This product was advertised as supporting AVCHD. Buyer beware that there are different versions of AVCHD.

Very Basic Summary:

AVCHD 4.0 = up to 17 Mbit/s transport stream.

AVCHD 4.1 = up to 24 Mbit/s transport stream.

Now I have a Cannon Vixia HF S10. This supports 24 Mbit/s video output/quality, and basically conforms to the AVCHD 4.1 specification. My hope was to buy PowerDirector 7 Ultra and use it’s advertised AVCHD and BD (blue ray disk) burning support to create HD home movies for the family.

After playing with the product for a couple of days, it became very obvious that the product did not support AVCHD 4.1. Again this was not documented anywhere (online, in the user manual, etc.). So what does this mean? All video captured with my camera is down sampled to 17 Mbit/s. This wouldn’t be so bad, if the stream was a steady 17; however, the codec PowerDirector uses does not work this way. My 22-24 Mbit/s source video (which looks great by the way), is down sampled to 12-14 Mbit/s. This results in very grainy and choppy looking video.

This in itself would have put the product at 2-3 stars. I’m giving Cyberlink’s PowerDirector 7 Ultra a one star, because of the following.

Before writing off the product as unusable, I contacted their customer support about the issue. Their turn around on posted issues is ~1 week. My first post was just a general question about how to preserve my video quality, and described the drop in quality from the 24Mbit/s source. The response I got was a canned answer to try a very basic burn. Being patient, I tried this and provided feedback that this didn’t work. Realizing the quality of tech support at this point, I changed my tactic to ask directly if the tool supported AVCHD 4.1. It took three exchanges (so three more weeks go by), before they answered my direct question, and stated the following:

“In regards to your concern related with the droping of video quality we would like to inform that PowerDirector doesn’t support H264 Main-Profile, Level 4.1 = 24Mbps max.”

Now that I have confirmation from them that this product does not support my needs, I start the process of requesting a return and refund of the product. I then get sent between Digital River, and Cyberlink customer support three times, each stating that the other group is responsible for the refund and return of the product.

I’ll be contacting Amazon shortly, and see what they might be able to do for me, but my hopes are not that high.

Conclusion:

If you have a camcorder which does not support AVCHD 4.1, and you do not mind dealing with tech support for multiple weeks for simple direct questions (or don’t need tech support at all), then this product is probably great. Otherwise, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

2 Stars Great features, very unstable
I have used a bunch of the budget video editors and PD7 definitely has the best feature set and most intuitive easy-to-learn functionality… if it only was stable. After months of back and forth with customer service, uninstalling and reinstalling versions and turning off background processes, the program still crashes routinely, multiple times in every session I use it. I’m running it on Vista with 4gb of ram on a quad-core, so processing isnt the issue – this is just a frustratingly buggy program.

I purchased this program and it only worked sometimes. It crashed continually. The support is worthless.

Don’t purchase the program! You are better off using the free Microsoft Windows Movie Maker. If you want to purchase something try Corel Videostudio, a much better program.

I purchased this product based on so called experts ratings. After three months, I have not been able to burn a quality Blu Ray disk. I’ve been in contact with software support and have tried everything they suggested. After wasting five 25G disks, the product still continually shuts down (sometimes during burning process). When I was able to burn a Blu Ray disk, the quality was very poor. The Blu ray disk had radom pixels throught the video.

I do not even shop around anymore for my blank 4.7 DVD’s. The price for the Verbatim 16X Single-sided blanks cannot be beat and the quality has been perfect to date. I have learned with all of my blank media to set the record speed a bit lower than what is advertised and so it may take a few extra seconds to complete a project, but I can honestly say that I have never had a bad burn with the Verbatim discs. I have no idea why they are so inexpensive compared to other similar products, but at this point I just enjoy the savings and burn my projects with total confidence.
